Doechii, Durand Bernarr, & Kaytranada Among LGBTQ+ Grammy Nominated Artists Shaping 2024

The highly anticipated 2025 Grammy nominations were announced Friday, November 8. This year’s list features an impressive array of LGBTQIA+ powerhouses. 2024 has been a major year for music, marked by a notable wave of genre defying and culture defining moments. Unsurprisingly, queer artists are without a doubt leading the charge in this creative momentum. After all, who else would it be?

Rising superstar Doechii, also known as The Swamp Princess, has emerged as a bona fide, versatile force in rap. This year shone on her like never before with the recent release of the critically acclaimed Alligator Bites Never Heal, her first official mixtape under TDE. This diaristic project served as a creative reset for the multifaceted rapper, and critics, rap aficionados, and fans alike have reached the same conclusion: Doechii is here to stay. This marks the Tampa native’s first Grammy nomination, and she’s also the most nominated female rapper for the 2025 Grammys.

DJ and superproducer Kaytranada has been reshaping the music industry for over a decade. Crafting a unique sound is no easy feat, yet Kaytranada does so effortlessly. Known for his signature beats, he curates an eclectic mix of collaborators on his projects, including Syd, Ravyn Lenae, Teedra Moses, and Thundercat, to name a few. In June 2024, he released his third solo album, Timeless, a standout entry in his already impressive catalog of top tier dance records. In 2021, Kaytranada made history as the first Black and first openly gay artist to win both Best Dance Recording and Best Dance/Electronic Album at the 63rd Grammy Awards for his sophomore solo album, Bubba

Genre-blending Durand Bernarr has become a prominent fixture not only in R&B, but across the music world period. Self proclaimed as “your favorite singer’s favorite singer”, Bernarr is truly one of a kind. His electric personality, deep musical knowledge, and unique style come together to create bold, beautiful, and therapeutic art. His latest project, En Route, is a visual EP, an immersive experience designed to guide listeners on a journey through a diverse range of sounds and genres. This is Durand Bernarr’s first ever Grammy Award nomination.
