Today, Jussie Smollett is facing six new charges of disorder conduct from a special grand jury. This is being done by special prosecutor, Dan Webb. We previously reported that Smollett originally made claims that he was the victim of a racial and homophobic hate crime in early 2019 and made reports to the Chicago PD.
Here is one of the official documents released by Webb's office.
In March of 2019, Smollett was indicted on 16 felony counts but then, all of the original charges that were put against Smollett were suddenly dropped by prosecutors. He also did not return to the TV show, "Empire" for the season that was going on at the time and he also did not return for the show's final season among the backlash of this whole situation.
The case was originally being looked into by State Attorney, Kim Foxx, but Webb had criticized Foxx's office saying, they failed to provide evidence saying that they failed to provide evidence that they received new information exonerating Smollett before dropping his charges.
The state attorney did not comment nor did Smollett, but he is due to answer to the charges on Feb. 24th.
