26 year old Philly-bred rapper Lil Uzi Vert has seemingly come out as non-binary. Or did they?
Reports quickly circulated over the weekend after fans realized Lil Uzi’s pronouns on Instagram had been changed to they/them.
Some of Lil Uzi’s fans, or trolls for a lack of a better term, took to Twitter to express their disdain for Uzi using they/them pronouns. Of course, the memes rolled in as well.
It is unknown when exactly Lil Uzi changed pronouns on Instagram, but it’s important to note that International Non-Binary People’s Day was this past Thursday (July 14).
Now that we all can considerably infer that Lil Uzi is non-binary, according to Instagram, we have questions.
Is this just a joke to bring attention to the new single Uzi recently dropped on SoundCloud? Will JT be using they/them pronouns to address her boyfriend?
Lil Uzi Vert has yet to release an official statement about the social media change or identifying as non-binary.
Considering Uzi’s antics, which has notoriously given the rapper stardom, it’s safe to say that we should all take Uzi’s pronoun update at face value. The debate on They/Them pronouns is already divided. We can only hope this doesn’t hurt those who actually identify as such.
