“Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey”, remember that title because it is the name of Netflix's new Christmas movie. Now we don't know about you, but on November 13, we’ll be right in front of my screen watching 'til New Years.
Don't get it wrong, we all love Black Christmas stories with the family fight and gospel ending, but this movie puts black characters in a genre of fantasy and magic many of us didn't grow up watching as a child. The released photos and star-studded cast shows that traditional, magical, Christmas story with actors such as Forest Whitaker, comedian Keegan-Michael Key, Anika Noni Rose and Phylicia Rashad.
The holiday music will be centered around an inventor named Jeronicus Jangle (Whitaker) and his granddaughter Journey (Madalen Mills), music will be from John Legend and Philip Lawrence.
The director, David E. Talbert, said he had thought about making the musical almost 20 years ago but only put it into action when his son was born.
“For me as a father of a little Black boy and an uncle of a little Black girl, it's important for me to put images of wonder and magic that are universal out in the universe...Because if we never see it, then how do we know we can be it?"
We're hoping that come November 13th this movie will be a Christmas Classic. Ya'll watching #gayes? Look at some of the movie images and tell us what you think!
