This week, the Supreme Court ruled that Title VII Civil Rights Act, which previously prohibited discrimination against an employees sex, race, color & religion, now includes sexual orientation & transgender status.
The 6-3 vote was finalized by Donald Trump‘s 1st appointee Justice Neil Gorsuch & joined by Chief Justice John Roberts with the court's four liberal justices.
According to Gursuch, Title VII Law has always involved LGBTQ protection.
“An employer who fires an individual for being homosexual or transgender fires that person for traits or actions it would not have questioned in members of a different sex. Sex plays a necessary and undisguisable role in the decision, exactly what Title VII forbids," - Neil Gorsuch Before Today’s decision, it was legal in more than half the United States to fire employees for being gay, bisexual or transgender. Even though the fight for same-sex marriage is still an issue in the LGBTQ community, every adult has to make a living and thankfully that right to work is protected.
