Raven Symone Hosts “Scrabble” Game Show for CW

TV & Film | Entertainment News

A year after the end of her hit Disney Channel sitcom “Raven's Home” Raven Symone is set to return to our screens this week as host of CW’s all-new game show Scrabble

“I was so honored when I was asked to host Scrabble because I am a game player. I play games all the time and when the opportunity came to host one of the most iconic game boards ever I jumped at the opportunity,” said Symone

Scrabble isn't Symone’s first foray into television hosting. From 2012-2016 she co-hosted ABC’s “The View”. Earlier this week she returned to the talk show to discuss “Scrabble” telling some of her former co-hosts she believes the show will be an ”experience” for viewers.

“It is a good healthy competition game and with this version we are bringing people together.” she said.

Dennis Miller, The CW president, expressed his excitement about adding the show to the network's Fall television lineup.  “Scrabble game shows work for the network because known intellectual property stands out a lot better than a new commodity.”

He continued,  “In a noisy, fragmented television landscape, you need things where audiences already know what they're going to walk into,“

Brad Schwartz, head at The CW Network said he believes adding the shows to the networks Fall line will continue to help the network grow in the ratings.

“The CW is currently enjoying three consecutive quarters of growth, and we are looking forward to a fall schedule that is stronger than ever, starting with a brand-new game night featuring Trivial Pursuit and Scrabble—two games families have enjoyed for decades and hosted by fan-favorites LeVar Burton and Raven-Symoné.”

Symoné first debuted on our television screen over 30 years ago as Olivia on the Emmy Award-winning series "The Cosby Show” .Following a successful run on the show she would become a major television sitcom player landing a supporting role on with “Hangin' with Mr. Cooper," and eventually her own sitcom “That’s So Raven” on Disney Channel.

Her run on “That’s So Raven” proved to be successful earning her four NAACP Image Awards, two Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards, and a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Children's Program.

In addition to her acting work Symone has released four studio albums Here's to New Dreams (1993), Undeniable (1999), This Is My Time (2004) Raven-Symoné (2008)

Her vocal ability would eventually lead her to Broadway, where she headlined the hit musical "Sister Act” based on the 1992 American musical crime comedy film of the same name.

In addition to her work in television and music Symone has several projects in development under her production banner, I See Pictures, which primarily focuses on creating powerful and meaningful stories about underrepresented communities and championing LGBTQ+ voices.

CW’s Scrabble is produced by Hasbro Entertainment, The CW, Mattel Television Studios and Lionsgate Alternative Television. Gabriel Marano, David Garfinkle and Michelle Mendelovitz are executive producers.
