Yesterday during the Cincinnati Reds baseball game, Sportscaster Thom Brennaman spilled out the word, "Fag" while his mic was turned on before he began to announce the starting game.
This took place right before the Cincinnati Reds were going up against the Kansas City Royals. Brennaman might have thought that no one heard him say this offensive slur since he began to announce right after realizing the microphone was on. But, it was too late as it was broadcaster on live TV and radio.
He said, "F*g capitols of the world"
This was not taken very lightly and Brennaman lost two of his jobs instead of one. The team released an official statement via Twitter explaining the action that they will be taking by pulling him off the air and immediately suspend him from doing more broadcasts, as well as an apology to the LGBTQ+ community as his remarks do not represent what they stand for as a team.
Aside from him being no longer allowed to broadcast for the Cincinnati Reds, he will also be pulled from NFL broadcasts on FOX Sports as well. USA Today reported that FOX Sports made an official statement in regards to Brennaman.
"The language used was abhorrent, unacceptable, and not representative of the values of Fox Sports," the network said in a statement. "As it relates to Brennaman’s Fox NFL role, we are moving forward with our NFL schedule which will not include him.”
After all of this, Brennaman ended up making a public apology during the game.
He said that he wants wants to apologize about the comment that he "guess" went over the air and he wants people to know that it does not represent who he is. He wanted to apologize to anyone that he may have offended. He closed out by saying that he does not know when he will be putting on the headset again as he has a lot of explaining to do to the people that sign his checks.
But since the statements both of his jobs made against him came out after his apology, it seems he will not be broadcasting anytime soon and will really have to make up for this.
#Gayes, what y'all think about this?
